Paris: When It Sizzles — Days 35-44

I love Paris in the springtime
I love Paris in the fall
I love Paris in the summer when it sizzles
I love Paris in the winter when it drizzles

Here is a selection of photos from our trek through the city as it sizzled in the summer sun.

Morning walk along the Seine.
Alexander’s first impression when seeing the Eiffel Tower, “I thought it was silver.” Deep thoughts by Alexander Dupuy.

We hiked up to the Sacre Coeur and decided to sit for a family portrait at the Place du Tertre. We wanted to take the funicular to the top since it’s such a steep walk so, of course, we type “Montmartre Funicular” into Google maps and headed off, wondering why the first step of the directions was to walk up a number of steps. Long story short, Google took us to the entrance to the funicular at the top of Montmartre, not the bottom. That was fun.

Josh went first, demonstrating how awkward the sketching would be.
Alexander is very skeptical of this process.
Could Xavier look any more uncomfortable?
He kept this “smile” for a solid 15 minutes.
The Dupuy Family Portrait. The artist said that drawing caricatures is the only job he’s ever had and he’s been doing it for 40 years!
One of the most famous French artists painted my portrait. Though I was skeptical of this man in white trousers and a reindeer Christmas sweater, the portrait came out well.

Out to watch the nightly sparkle of the Eiffel Tower at 10pm.
Alexander having an angry breakfast because he wasn’t allowed to go out, by himself, to buy a pain au chocolat.
Xavier angry at sightseeing and taking pictures.
Passing Notre Dame on the bateaux mouche and viewing the massive renovation of the cathedral’s spire and roof damaged in the 2019 fire.

We continued our tour around the sights of Paris and admired the fantastic street art the city has to offer.

One new piece of street art was recently unveiled near the Center Pompidou.

This new mural is in support of Ukraine. Vive la resistance Ukrainienne or Long live the Ukrainian resistance is displayed prominently near the contemporary art museum. It’s a nod to Delacroix’s Liberty Leading the People, which commemorates the revolution that brought down King Charles X (NOT the French Revolution!)

The original by Delacroix commemorates the July Revolution of 1830.
Someone was very excited to visit the PSG store and get a personalized Mbappe jersey.
The Flame of Liberty (Flamme de la Liberté) at the Point de l’Alma is a full-sized replica of flame on the Statue of Liberty. It was given to the city by donors organized by the International Herald Tribune.
Inspector Clouseau…
…looking for the Pink Panther!
This Santa looks like he lives in Hollywood.
Being held in the hand in Les Halles.
Afternoon tea at Mariage Freres, Marais.
Boy, 9, turns croque monsieur inside out and removes ham to make a grilled cheese sandwich. All of Paris horrified.
Xavier perfected how to order “un hamburger à point” (sont fromage!)

    1. Thanks! You won the award for most comments on our blog so thank you. Even though we’re back home, we still have 2-3 more posts to write. We actually ended with 5 days in London so more to come! I just took the portrai to the framers yesterday but I’m sure we can get you a good copy.
